A preview from The Amazing Screw-On Head and Other Curious Objects, a hardcover collection by Mike Mignola, printed by Dark Horse Comics.
This particular piece was written by Mignola's seven-year-old daughter Katie, and won an Eisner Award, making Katie the youngest recipient in the history of the award. It's extremely heartwarming and has a wonderfully pure feeling to it that only the mind of a seven-year-old could create. It is so freeing to look at something like this, and it made me think about fairy tales. In the original Grimm versions, you get the same sort of rambling, childlike irreverence to them that seem to have this almost impossibly simplistic, pure feeling to them.
It also says a lot for Mike Mignola, being able to take the simplest idea and give it a real emotional resonance. Congratulations Mike, on being both an awesome artist and an awesome dad.
